Is Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro Waterproof Smartphone?

Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro was launched on 24th September 2022 with top-notch features. It comprises of a massive 6.39-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080×2340 pixels at a pixel density of 403 pixels per inch (PPI) and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. Mi 9 Pro has a 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor with 8GB of RAM. This makes it a beast for gaming and high intensive usage.

As of the camera department, the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G on the rear packs a 48-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.75 aperture; the second 12-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a third 16-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture. The Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G runs Android and is powered by a 4000mAh battery. The Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G supports proprietary fast charging as well.

However, we haven’t found any official IP67 or IP68 ratings for the device. Which means that the device is not officially waterproof. But we will still conduct our waterproof test to be sure with the results.


Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro waterproof and dustproof Test

Since we don’t have any official IP ratings for the device, it’s not safe to assume its waterproofing capabilities. So we need to perform a Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro waterproof and dustproof test.

In this waterproof test, we are going to put the device in a small tub full of water for 1 minute. This test will give us a rough idea of whether the new Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro is splashproof or not.
 

After conducting this test, we can say that this phone is not fully waterproof. The speaker’s sound was muffled up and the touchscreen was unresponsive. Even there was a visible fog in-camera lens which indicates that water has gone inside the device’s body. Users must take proper care of this device when near any water bodies such as pool, pond, lake, etc.
